Eberhard Weber
Bio:
As a composer as well as a musician Eberhard Weber must be counted as one of the more remarkable personalities in European jazz. Early in his life he developed his own technical style in which his custom-made instrument played a major role; an electric-acoustic bass featuring an extra C-String was designed by Weber and built for him by a violinmaker. The typical tone of this instrument can be described as a clear and bright singing sound with extraordinary flexibility. His perfect intonation and musical intuition for open-spaces and melodic beauty define his musical work. His name is representative for the emancipation of his instrument the bass from it's former roll.
To expand and at the same time condense his sound Eberhard Weber uses electronic devices for his solo performances. He will devise a theme, save it, play another over it, overlaying a tapestry of rhythmically structured sound planes over which he plays his melodic improvisations. Dream-like pieces are developed in this manner that doesn't serve to show-off his technic to play faster, higher and farther, but is solely concerned with making the creative process more accessable to his audience while spreading warmth and humor all around.
He is truely a musician of world-class standing, known to most audiences through his many years of playing with the Jan Garbarek Group and for his recording work with Kate Bush. Thanks to his extraordinary musical talent and his sincerely enchanting and entertaining personality, he and his solo concert appearances have become a favorite for many, who formly could not have imagined sitting and listening to someone playing a bass for an entire evening, enjoying themselves thoroughly while doing so.
